Talking about Op-Ed Columnist – Missing Richard Nixon –

As many people have pointed out, Nixon’s proposal for health care reform looks a lot like Democratic proposals today. In fact, in some ways it was stronger. Right now, Republicans are balking at the idea of requiring that large employers offer health insurance to their workers; Nixon proposed requiring that all employers, not just large companies, offer insurance.

I do NOT agree with either Krugman or Nixon.  I believe health insurance should be required, just as auto insurance.  You are not allowed on public roads without a license and car insurance, likewise you should not be allowed into this country without citizenship or a legal visa AND HEALTH INSURANCE.

Just like auto insurance is required to protect the rest of society from you, health insurance is required to protect the rest of society from the cost of having you take sick and infect society through your failure to protect the heath and safety of your family.  Even accidents cost the rest of society by requiring the treatment of your broken bones in emmergency rooms where costs are picked up by society if you have no insurance and refuse to pay otherwise.

BUT WHO PAYS?   …regardless, YOU DO!   Nixon and Krugman are eager to have big business pay.  It is politically easy to deceive the public into thinking that someone else is paying when your employer picks up the tab for universal health insurance.  But you very well know you would not have that job if you did not earn enough to pay for that insurance policy AND your paycheck.  So "employer pays" is just a utter deceit!

We’ve grown up.  We know longer can be told "big bad businessman owes you".  Nor are we so stupid as to think that when he pays that insurance bill, the dollars he pays with did not come from the price he charged for good sold.  ….so even if I were to believe I didn’t earn the policy with my work, I’m well aware that WE (the consumers of this world) plunked down all the dollars that our employers spent on our health insurance.

MY SOLUTION:  give me the money I earned; give me the tax deductions you gave my employer: give me the right to join with other workers and shop for the best deals I can get in health insurance… anywhere in the country, not just in my state.  GIVE ME THE FREEDOM TO PROTECT MY FAMILY just the way you give me the freedom (and duty) to buy auto insurance before I drive a car.

Is that hard to understand????  Apparently our politicians (and Mr. Krugman) can’t seem to figure this out!
